The Pretzel-Benders: Book #1

The Pretzel-Benders: Book #1

In the shadowy depths of San Francisco’s criminal underworld, and in the discreet macabre underbelly of its sibling across the Bay Bridge, Berkeley, a storm is brewing.
Little known for unfettered homicide, the body count in Berkeley is about to spike when Joseph, the accountant of San Francisco’s leading crime queen, Ma, arrives in town in pursuit of refuge with her henchmen trailing his shadow.
The matter of retrieval, however, will prove less than elementary for Ma’s accomplices when a singular Berkeley local finds her path colliding with theirs to disastrous effect. All the while, one of Ma’s once-loyal servants attempts her escape from her life as a modern sex slave, likely leaving the lives of her abettors and aggressors altered with devastating finality.
Fate, luck, and cold meticulous plotting will spark chaos as the days unfold, delivering joy to the fortunate few and despair to the many caught in the crossfire. In this gripping tale of twisted loyalties and familial bonds, the dark underbellies of San Francisco and Berkeley converge in a chilling showdown with devastating consequences.
Brace yourself for a journey where freedom comes at a price, and few emerge unscathed.
Ibn Asrar

Ibn Asrar

To 11-year-old Hussien, the Yemeni village of Al-Mizaya— with its terraced coffee fields and the majestic mountain peaks that watched over them—was a keeper of stories: the stories of his ancestors, the stories of his parents, and, one day, the stories of his own life, to be inscribed beneath the sacred soil of its farmlands.
However, one fateful night, he awakens to the sound of his parents arguing outside his bedroom window. His mother, Israr, seems determined to venture into the dark, sleepy farmlands of Al-Mizaya, while his father, Johar, desperately tries to prevent her from leaving. Overwhelmed by fear, Hussien hides beneath his blanket, shocked as he witnesses his mother use inexplicable, magical means to incapacitate his father.
The following evening, unable to quell his curiosity, Hussien watches over the front door of their home. When his mother embarks on another journey into the shadowbathed farmlands of Al-Mizaya, this time unimpeded by his father, he decides to follow her.
What awaits him are the consequences of the false tales of his ancestors, the dangers of his own curiosity, and a tremendous power that promises to exact a significant toll on his destined path.
